N55 comprises of architects Ion Sørvin (*1964) and Ingvil H. Aarbakke (*1970–2005), based in Copenhagen. Both where educated at the Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts, 1991-1998. N55 are concerned with modular, social and public architecture.
Driven by a politicised desire for devolution of power and thereby choice to the individual they deliver “small-scale suggestions” rather than solutions.
Talking Cities shows large-scale prints of N55’s Micro Dwellings; reduced living pods, modular and low cost to reflect changes in life, e.g. people moving in and out, the arrival of children, etc. The Micro Dwellings can be built onto rooftops or be suspended from a wall, they can both float and be submerged under water (10m deep), they are mobile and can be transported on wheels – they are designed to offer the biggest possible variety of possibilities. A basic modul of the Micro Dwellings will be shown outside of the Kohlenwäsche on the site of Zollverein.
