“Recto” alias Frédéric Platéus (*1976) is an artist based in Liège, Belgium. He qualified as a dental technician at the Ecole du Château Massart, Liège. Exhibitions include: “Sculpture Typographique”, Ink Gallery, 2001 and “Airbrush show 2004”, Milan Centro Congressi Quark(I). Commissions include: a typographic lighting display for MONT BLANC in Paris and the “Tatu tattoo” wall painting in Musée du cinquantenaire-MRAH1000, Brussels.
Coming from a skateboarding, music and graffiti background, Recto’s design concepts are concerned with the ways in which urban subcultures invent and represent individual identities.
Talking Cities shows an object from his series “Graffiti Lights”, SKYLUMN700. For the specific forms of this design objects he took inspiration from the various styles of urban graffiti – like the name of the series already suggests
